Fortified Wine

Fortified wines is a fascinating category for the incredibly diverse range of wines it can include. These may be dry, sweet, delicate or syrupy, nutty or fruity, or bitter. What they have in common is that they have been strengthened with a distilled spirit. Before modern refrigeration, fortified wines were produced to prevent wine spoilage by increasing their alcohol content. This is how Marsala and Vermouth were born. Each fortified wine in our list is distinguishable as each wine has been blended with unique spices, herbs, or other natural flavorings, to enhance their unique value.
